Artist Statement

My work is digital photography. My photos are about finding the beauty in natural and architectural places. My use of use of photography tell a story or  provoke an emotion to the person that is viewing the artwork.

The main reason I started taking an interest in photography was to escape the “real world” and things that were happening in life that I just wanted to get away from for only a short period of time. When I first started taking pictures I was mostly taking pictures of the things around me. Being from New Jersey and growing up so close to the city I was drawn to taking pictures of the skyline and the buildings around New York City. Whenever I go back to New Jersey, I like to explore and find the hidden gems, thing that you often don’t see by standing there by exploring traveling down south or out towards the Pennsylvania area and see what these places have to offer. I truly like to find the beauty in places that I've been to. My work has changed over the years as I have gone from photographing buildings to photographing nature. There is something about capturing the beauty that our earth offers that I really enjoy.

I have created this type of photography because I enjoy being outside. When photographing all that the outside has to offer I can take the same picture throughout the day and it tells a different story. The lighting, shadows and reflections all give you, the viewer, a different perspective of the subject. Each photograph is unique in its own way even though the subject stays the same. The challenge is to capture these images in a way that grabs the attention of the viewer. When taking pictures of buildings and nature, I am always looking for the picture to have a different interpretation of what it really is. I want the picture to have the viewer see it in a different way. Whether it’s the composition, framing or lighting of the picture. I want them to engage their imagination.

Living in the St. Louis area for the past 4 years I have taken the opportunity to seek out the architecture within the city. I have taken many pictures of the Arch. My favorite pastime is at the Arch. I have taken pictures of the Old St. Louis County Courthouse, The Runner, Eads Bridge and at the Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park as well as at the Art Hill/Forest Park of the many sculptures that are on the grounds. I have been able to capture the architecture that the old city and new city has to offer. The Arch offers many angles to photograph. I find myself many times at the Arch at different times of the day. It just offers so many different perspectives. Everyone visits the Arch when visiting St. Louis, it is my favorite place. My nature pictures have been of a fallen tree down on the Mississippi, oceans, mountains, sunsets, waterfalls and skylines. My pictures are of earth made objects. I take most of my nature pictures when traveling to different places. When traveling to these different places I like to explore and see what nature has to offer.
